Why A series repairs come up so often
Samsung's Galaxy A series is one of the most popular lines of Android phones in Canada. Models like the A15, A16, A25, A26, A35, A36, A55 and A56 are common first phones for kids, everyday phones for parents and work phones handed out by small businesses. More phones in more hands means more drops, more worn batteries and more charging ports full of pocket lint.
Because A series phones cost less than Samsung's flagship S series, people sometimes assume they aren't worth repairing. Often the opposite is true: a single repair can give a healthy A series phone a lot more useful life.
Find your exact model first
Samsung makes many A series versions, and parts differ between them, even between models with similar names. Before asking for a quote:
- Open Settings and scroll to About phone.
- Note the Model name (for example, Galaxy A35 5G) and the Model number, which starts with SM-A.
- If the screen is too damaged to read, check the original box or your carrier account.
Sending both the model name and number, plus a photo of the damage, gets you an accurate quote the first time.
The most common A series problems
Cracked, black or flickering screens
Screens are the most common phone repair overall, and A series phones are no exception. Many recent A models use Super AMOLED displays where the glass and the display are bonded together, so a crack usually means replacing the whole screen assembly, not just the glass. Some entry-level models use LCD screens instead.
Watch for lines, black patches, green or purple spots, flicker or a touchscreen that stops responding in places. Those are signs the display under the glass is damaged. Our Samsung Galaxy repair guide explains the warning signs in more detail.
Batteries that drain fast or shut off
After a couple of years of daily charging, lithium-ion batteries hold less charge. Signs include a phone that won't last the day, shuts off with charge still showing, or slows down when the battery is low. A battery that makes the back panel bulge or the screen lift needs attention right away. Stop charging it and don't press on it.
You can run a battery check in the Samsung Members app, which is preinstalled on most Galaxy phones, using its diagnostics section.
USB-C charging port problems
A loose cable, charging that only works at a certain angle, or a "moisture detected" message that won't go away can all point to the charging port. Sometimes the cause is pocket lint packed into the port. Other times the port is worn or damaged and needs replacing. Never dig into the port with metal tools.
Back panels and camera glass
Higher-end A models have glass backs that can crack, while some entry models use plastic. The small glass covers over the rear cameras can also crack and blur photos, even when the rest of the phone looks fine.
Is it worth repairing your A series phone?
Ask yourself a few questions before deciding:
- Is it still getting software updates? Samsung has extended support on recent A models, with up to six years of updates on phones like the A16, A26, A36 and A56. Older models get fewer. Samsung's security updates page lists your model's status.
- Is there one problem or several? A cracked screen on an otherwise good phone is a clear repair. A cracked screen plus a dying battery plus a loose port starts to add up.
- Does it still do what you need? Enough storage, a camera you're happy with and apps that run fine are good reasons to keep it.
- How does the quote compare to replacing it? Get a free quote and compare it honestly with the cost of a comparable new phone, plus the time it takes to set one up.
| Repair | Usually worth it when | Think twice when |
|---|---|---|
| Screen | The phone is recent and otherwise healthy | The frame is badly bent or there's water damage too |
| Battery | Battery life is the only real complaint | The phone no longer gets updates and storage is full |
| Charging port | The phone works fine apart from charging | The port fault followed liquid exposure |
Before the technician arrives
- Back up your photos and contacts with your Samsung account, Google account or Smart Switch, if the phone still works.
- Have your PIN or pattern ready so you can test the phone together afterwards.
- Take off the case and any screen protector, if you can.
- Write down anything else that's been acting up, so it can be checked in the same visit.

Frequently asked questions
Is it worth fixing a Samsung Galaxy A series phone?
Often, yes. If the phone is recent, still gets software updates and has a single problem like a cracked screen, worn battery or faulty charging port, a repair usually makes sense. Compare a free quote with the cost of a comparable new phone.
How do I find my Samsung Galaxy A model number?
Open Settings and tap About phone. You'll see the model name, such as Galaxy A35 5G, and a model number starting with SM-A. If the screen is broken, check the box or your carrier account.
Can a Galaxy A series charging port be replaced?
Yes. If cleaning doesn't fix a loose or unreliable connection, the USB-C charging port can be replaced. A technician can check whether the problem is lint, a worn port or something else before quoting.
